
Women’s Swimming adds two more All-Americans on Day Four of NCAA Championships
Indianapolis, Ind. —- The Catawba College women's swimming team was back in action at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday for Day Four of the NCAA Division II Swimming Championships, adding two more All-American performances on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
MORNING SESSION
500 Yard Freestyle Preliminaries
- Danielle Meneima placed 24th in the 500 free preliminaries with a time of 4:58.34
- Ella Gutenwik was close behind, racing to a time of 4:59.18, good for 28th
- Fiona Byrne placed 33rd in the prelims, earning a mark of 4:59.58
100 Yard Backstroke Preliminaries
- Eniko Onofer placed 28th in the 100 Back prelims with a time of 55.84
100 Yard Breaststroke Preliminaries
- Sydney McKenzie broke a school record with a mark of 1:02.04 to earn a spot in the championship final later in the evening
EVENING SESSION
100 Yard Breaststroke
- McKenzie earned First Team All-America status with a 1:01.92 mark, good for seventh place
200 Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's team of Marit Reckmann, Onofer, Marleen Plachetka and Brinkley Watson added yet another All-American performance, finishing ninth in the 200 Free relay with a time of 1:32.52
STANDINGS UPDATE
- Catawba moved up one spot in the overall team standings on Friday, up to 14th
UP NEXT
- The Catawba Indians return on Saturday to the final day of the NCAA Championships, with national championships to be earned in the 1650 Free, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast and the 400 Free relay
