
#21 Women’s Swimming breaks three school records in dual with Division I Queens
Salisbury, N.C. —- The 21st-ranked Catawba College women's swim team fell in its dual match with Division I Queens, but broke three school records and set five NCAA B-cuts at the Johnson Pool on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
200 Yard Medley Relay
- The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Ash Fortin, Sydney McKenzie, Sydney Peterson and Marit Reckmann started the afternoon off with a bang, breaking the school record with a time of 1:44.04
1000 Yard Freestyle
- Fiona Byrne took home the first individual event win of the night, finishing the 1000 Free in 10:18.93, good for a B-cut
- Ella Gutenwik finished right behind her ahead of all Queens swimmers with another B-cut time of 10:23.91
100 Yard Breaststroke
- McKenzie broke a school record in a second-place effort in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing with a B-cut time of 1:03.53
200 Yard Butterfly
- Rebecca Possenti followed up with another school record in the very next event, posting a program-best 2:06.63 in the 200 Fly
50 Yard Freestyle
- Reckmann impressed in the 50 Free, posting a B-cut time of 23.47
100 Yard Freestyle
- Reckmann backed it up with another second-place finish in the 100 Free with a time of 52.17
200 Yard Backstroke
- Lucie Cainaud finished a close second in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:04.54
200 Yard Breaststroke
- McKenzie had another close call in the 200 Breast, posting a 2:20.08
500 Yard Freestyle
- Gutenwik posted her second B-cut time of the afternoon with a 5:04.20 time in a second-place effort in the 500 Free
100 Yard Butterfly
- Freshman Sydney Peterson posted a 57.00 time in the 100 Fly for a close second-place finish
