#15 Women’s Swimming takes home three conference titles on Day Two of SAC Championships

Greensboro, N.C. —- The 15th-ranked Catawba College women's swim team had a huge night at the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Wednesday night, taking home three conference titles to pull within eight points of first place overall in the week-long championships.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

1000 Yard Freestyle

- Fiona Byrne successfully defended her SAC title in the 1000 Yard Free, topping her previous-best mark with a 10:09.10

- Danielle Meinema also earned a podium finish with a time of 10:16.03, good for third place

- Ella Gutenwik, Jolina Franke and Rebecca Possenti made it five Catawba Indians in the top seven in the event with fourth, fifth, and seventh-place efforts, respectively

 

200 Yard Individual Medley Relay

- Sydney McKenzie took third in the 200 IM, earning a mark of 2:05.20, good for a B-cut time and a new school record

 

50 Yard Freestyle

- Marit Reckmann earned the first SAC title of her career with a first-place finish in the Women's 50 freestyle, posting a time of 22.89

- Eniko Onofer was a close second with a B-cut mark of 23.30

 

200 Yard Medley Relay

- Catawba's 200 medley relay team of Onofer, McKenzie, Sydney Peterson and Reckmann upended favorite Wingate, earning another SAC title with a time of 1:42.52

 

AFTER DAY TWO

- Catawba stands in second place in the SAC Championships, just eight points behind meet leader Wingate with 481 points to Wingate's 489; Carson-Newman is in third with 302 points

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba's women return to the GAC tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.; SAC titles will be earned in the 100 Butterfly, 400 Individual Medley, 200 Freestyle and 400 Medley Relay on Thursday
