
Onofer claims first top-8 finish in Women’s Swimming history at NCAA DII Championships
Indianapolis, Ind. —- The Catawba College women's swimming team set multiple firsts in program history in Day Three of the NCAA Division II Swimming National Championships in Indianapolis on Thursday, as Eniko Onofer became the first First Team All-American and the 400 medley relay earned the first All-American performance of either side in Catawba program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
MORNING SESSION
100 Yard Butterfly Preliminaries
- Onofer punched her ticket to the championship final with a time of 54.76, good for eighth in the prelim
400 Yard Individual Medley Preliminaries
- Sydney McKenzie raced to a mark of 4:30.70 to finish 26th in the 400 IM preliminaries
200 Yard Freestyle Preliminaries
- Danielle Meneima broke a new school record in the 200 Free in the preliminaries, climbing up to 19th place from a 30th-place seed time
EVENING SESSION
100 Yard Butterfly
- Onofer rose up another spot to finish seventh in the 100 Yard Butterfly, becoming the first women's swimmer in Catawba history to earn First Team All-America status
400 Yard Medley Relay
- Catawba's 400 medley relay team of Onofer, McKenzie, Sydney Peterson and Marit Reckmann slashed over 2.4 seconds off their seed time (and previous school record) to finish sixth
- Onofer broke a school record in the 100 backstroke in the opening leg of the relay
- The group becomes the first All-American relay group in Catawba program history
STANDINGS UPDATE
- After a stellar day, Catawba rose to 15th in the overall team rankings with two days remaining

- Catawba returns to the pool on Friday for Day Four of the NCAA DII Championships, as national championships will be earned in the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 200 free relay
