Byrne earns All-American status in Day Two of NCAA Championships for Women’s Swimming

Indianapolis, Ind. —- The Catawba College women's swimming team competed in Day Two of the NCAA Division II Championships in Indianapolis on Wednesday, as Fiona Byrne earned an All-American spot in the 1000 Free.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

MORNING SESSION

200 Yard Individual Medley Preliminaries

- Sydney McKenzie set a school record with a 2:03.87 mark in the 200 IM, but just missed out on making a final with a 19th-place finish

 

50 Yard Freestyle Preliminaries

- Marit Reckmann raced to a 23.25 finish in the 50 Free prelim, but was the first swimmer just outside the cut to reach the consolation final, placing 17th

- Eniko Onofer finished 26th in preliminaries with a time of 23.27

 

EVENING SESSION

1000 Yard Freestyle

- Fiona Byrne earned Second Team All-American status in the 1000 Free, placing 16th with a time of 10:10.38

 

STANDINGS UPDATE

- The Catawba women have earned five points through the opening two days, good for 23rd in the total team meet

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba returns to the pool on Thursday for Day Three action; Thursday finals include 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle and 400 Medley Relay
