
Igarashi named WePlayed Sports SAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Rock Hill, S.C. —- Catawba College junior Rin Igarashi earned WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Gifu, Japan native was 2-0 on the week, earning both clinching points in 29th-ranked Catawba's upset victory over second-ranked North Georgia on Sunday, the team's highest-ranked win in program history.
Igarashi and doubles teammate Sofia Antolini defeated North Georgia's second-ranked doubles duo of Ashley Moinard and Vasilissa Kupriyanova 6-4 to earn the doubles point before defeating UNG's fifth-ranked singles player in Victoria Niox-Chateau 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the program-record victory.
Igarashi has helped the Catawba women to an 8-0 record, the team's best start in program history. The Catawba Indians will play two more matches in Chattanooga for the Scenic City Invitational, squaring off with 26th-ranked Columbus State on Monday before a bout with UIndy on Tuesday.
