Seven Event Wins Highlights Track & Field outing at Joe LaRocco Invitational

Salem, VA ,-- Catawba Track and Field won seven events at the Joe LaRocco Invitational Saturay night hosted by Roanoke College. Two of those victories courtesy of Graduate Erick Ramirez claiming the top podium spots in the men's 3000m & 5000m events.

MEET RECAP 

Sprints & Hurdles 

60M 

Women- Mallory Witherspoon placed second in the 60m dash finals running a time of 7.80. (PERSONAL BEST) 

 

Men- Winfred Porter won the event for Catawba with a time of 6.83. Teammate Brendan Henby finished sixth in the event with a time of 6.97 

 

60M Hurdles 

Women- Freshman Zamearea Simpson finished fourth with a time of 9.31 

 

200M 

Women- Mallory Witherspoon was Catawba's highest finisher in the event placing fourth with a finish of 26.46. Finishing in eighth place was Lea Legros with a time of 26.89. 

Men- Winfred Porter claimed second place in the 200m dash for his second top-2 placement of the afternoon with a time of 22.12. Once again joined in the event by teammate Brendan Henby who placed ninth with a time of 23.03 

 

400M 

Women- Onii Bivens had nice outing in the event with a second place finish in the event clocking a time of 1:00.55. Right behind her was teammate Raina Andrews who ran a 1:00.93 to place third. 

 

Men- Jaylen Currence was the top finisher on the men's side placing third with a time of 50.91. Jordan Grant placed sixteenth with a time of 53.46. 

 

Distance 

Mile 

Women- Sydney Cockerham, junior from King, N.C., won the event running a time 5:21.19. Madison Clay placed fourth in the event clocking a time of 5:28.39. Justine Sanchez would give Catawba their third top ten finisher in the event. She placed sixth with a time of 5:30.76.  

 

Men- Tommy Blackwell placed twelfth with a time of 4:50.03. 

 

800m Run 

Women- Raina Andrews won the 800m event for the second straight weekend. She won with a time of 2:18.98. Team Charity Davies finished in second place with a time of 2:25.12. 

 

3000M 

Women- Mikayla Jones continued to shine this season in the 3000m event. She would win the event with a time of 9:58.81. Last week Jones placed second at the Liberty Open breaking the school record. Madison Clay would secure second running a time of 10:07.33. Sydney Cockerham placed fifth finishing with a time of 10:55.42. 

 

Men- The Catawba men swept the first nine spots of the event led by Erick Ramirez who won the event with a time 8:33.33. Anthony Lecorche placed second running a time of 8:36.23. Will Lyons finished third with a time of 8:39.03. Placing fourth through ninth was EJ Threatt (8:42.19), Stefan Lauchner (8:43.59), Oussama Ajala (8:45.93), Tanner Smith (8:46.88), Andrew Whitehead (8:48.95) and Brannon Burns (8:55.06).  

 

5000M 

Women- Freshman Jenna Coleman placed second with a time of 19:08.27. Junior Rachel Overby was fourth in the event, finishing with a time of 20:04.27. 

Men- Catawba had three runners finish inside the top five. Erick Ramirez won his second event of the day running a time of 15:01.44. Right behind him was Oussama Ajala in second with a time of 15.09.18. James Shue would place fifth running a time of 15:45.42. 

 

Jumps & Throws 

Long Jump 

Women- Efemena Egberi had a third-place finish in the pits jumping a distance of 5.46m.  

 

Men- Javier Gomez-Wilson placed second with a leap of 6.84m. Teammate Chris Brown was just behind Wilson for Catawba jumping a mark of 6.47m for third place. 

 

High Jump 

Men- Sophomore Namaurion Koontz placed eight in the event with a height of 1.79m.  

 

Triple Jump 

Men- Chris Brown won the event for Catawba with a jumping distance of 13.65. Teammate Javier Gomez-Wilson followed in second place  

 

Pole Vault 

Men- Seth Drake finished sixth in the event clearing a height of 3.85m.  

 

Shot Put  

Women- Senior Carmen Bishop placed eleventh with a toss of 10.24m. Alyssa Krupa finished fifteenth with a throw of 10.10m.
