
#17 Women’s Soccer bounced from SAC Tournament vs. Anderson
Salisbury, N.C. —- The third-seeded Catawba Indians were upended in the quarterfinal round of South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament after Anderson netted a game-winning penalty kick in overtime to send the Trojans to the league semifinal.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Callie Hammond netted a score to break the scoreless tie
- Ellie Schock, Kylie Morin, Hailee Smith and Lillie Rusher logged shots on goal

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- Hammond tested the Anderson keeper early with a shot on target in the second minute
- The next shot on target in the game didn't come until Anderson Zoe Stevenson forced Hughes to make a stop on a long-range attempt in the 35th minute
- Morgan Delair's shot hit the post in the 42nd minute, but the game stayed scoreless through the first half
SECOND HALF
- Morin's try for a go-ahead score was stopped in the 54th minute; another effort from Schock was saved in the 58th minute
- The Trojan's Catherine Nardella threatened in the 75th minute, but Hughes made the save
- Hammond broke through for a potential go-ahead goal in the 86th minute on a lofted shot just over the Anderson keeper's reach
- The Trojans responded with the equalizer in the 88th minute on a score from Kylie Swanson from Camryn Woods
- Smith tried for one more score in a flurry of a five minutes, but the shot was saved and the teams moved to a sudden-death overtime
OVERTIME
- Lillie Rusher tried for the game-winner off a free kick from long range, but the Trojans' keeper corralled the shot
- Anderson found the game-winner in the 96th minute off a penalty kick to advance in the conference tournament
GAME NOTES
- Catawba's first loss in a SAC quarterfinal since 2019
- The Catawba Indians allowed six goals in 13 games against conference opponents; the Trojans scored three of them
- Two of three goals allowed this week were on penalty kicks
- Anderson snaps a seven-game losing streak in the series; Trojans' last win over Catawba came in 2017
- Catawba entered this week's contests ranked as the three seed in the NCAA Southeast Regional rankings
