Two goals in 11 seconds help #9 Women’s Soccer to road win over LMU

Harrogate, Tenn. —- The 9th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team broke its three-match draw streak on Saturday afternoon, breaking through for a 3-0 win at Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba out-shot Lincoln Memorial 9-8

- The Catawba Indians had five shots on goal to the Railsplitters' one

- LMU made two of three saves in the match

- Both teams recorded four corner kicks

- Catawba was called for eight fouls to seven for LMU; both teams got one yellow card

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Kylie Morin scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season for the game-winner

- Bree Ehmer found the back of the net for the second consecutive game with a score

- Lauren Darbo recorded her first goal scored as a Catawba Indian

- Summer Ward dished out two assists on the afternoon

- Ashley Hughes picked up her second shutout of the season, making one save in goal

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

- Morin put pressure on the LMU defense early in the second minute, but her shot missed wide

- The senior midfielder added another shot, but the Railsplitter keeper stepped up for the save

- LMU's Alicia Bevins answered with a shot on frame of her own in the 21st minute, but Hughes made the stop

- In the 34th minute, Ward made a push down the right side of the box and crossed to a wide-open Morin who pushed through for Catawba's first goal of the day

- Catawba stole a pass just after the LMU kickoff and scored again just 11 seconds following their first goal; Ward again recorded the assist, this time to Ehmer, also in the 34th minute

- Ellie Schock looked to push the lead to three in the first half, but LMU's Bente Latenstein made the 36th-minute save

 

SECOND HALF

- Darbo added an insurance score on a breakaway score in the 80th minute

- LMU was kept from a shot on target in the second half, as Catawba rolled to its first SAC win of the season

 

GAME NOTES

- Catawba improves to 13-6-5 in the all-time series, winning each of the last four; the Catawba Indians are 6-3-1 in Harrogate all-time

- Morin's fourth goal of the season, already surpassing her goal total from 23 games last season and ranking in a two-way tie for second in the conference

- Ehmer's third goal of the season, good for a tie for fourth thus far in league play

- Darbo's first collegiate goal; the junior played her first two seasons at USC Upstate

- Hughes' second clean sheet of the season and the seventh of her career

- Catawba's fifth straight game allowing two shots on goal or fewer; the Catawba Indians lead the conference in shots on goal allowed per game

- Nick Brown improves to 104-49-16 all-time; Catawba's 394th victory all-time

- Catawba is 56-6-10 since 2021
