
Women's Golf sixth, King third after first day on St. Simons Island
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Mary-Paige King used an even-par second round to rise into third place as the Catawba College women's golf team concluded opening day action of the St. Simons Intercollegiate with a sixth-place standing on Monday.
King collected six birdies to card 74-72 (146) in the first 36 holes, possessing a two-shot lead over fourth place while trailing the runner-up position by seven strokes. An improved second round saw Maddy Vogan shoot a 78, totaling 158 (+14) to claim a share of 30th. Rachel Carlson doubled-up on 80s for a 160 (+16) and a two-round placement of T-38th.
Both of Emily Rosenschein's rounds landed below her stroke average, shooting 82-80 to tally 162 strokes (+18) in a T-44th effort. Valentina Moran totaled 171 strokes (+27) to take the 65th spot as Hannah Waddell rounded out the Catawba contingent with a 177 (+33), ranking T-68th in her first day of college golf action.
The third round of play at the King and Prince Golf Club commences tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
