
Women’s Basketball guts out road win at LMU
Harrogate, Tenn. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team held Lincoln Memorial to under 50 points for just the second time this season, outscoring the Railsplitters 22-8 in the last 10-plus minutes in their road South Atlantic Conference win on Saturday.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba shot 21-for-56 (38 percent) from the field, while Lincoln Memorial went 17-of-47 (36 percent) from the floor
- The Railsplitters were 6-for-23 (26 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians shot 2-of-15 (13 percent) from long distance
- Catawba was 12-for-14 (86 percent) from the free throw line, while LMU went 8-of-11 (73 percent) from the charity stripe
- Lincoln Memorial out-rebounded Catawba 37-30, but the Catawba Indians held the 13-8 edge in second-chance points
- The Railsplitters recorded 13 to assists to 30 turnovers, their most since their season opener back in November, while Catawba was credited for seven assists to 18 turnovers; Catawba held a slight 20-17 lead in points off turnovers
- Catawba held leads in points in the paint (24-22), fastbreak points (5-2) and bench points (18-9)
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Janiya Foskey recorded 11 points and seven rebounds
- Bailee Goodlett joined her with 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting
- Mary Spry scored a season-high eight points
- Kairah Dixon-Booker chipped in seven points and five boards
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Lincoln Memorial jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game's first seven points
- Saniya Wilson got Catawba on the board at the 5:39 mark; Spry's early layup got the deficit back to a single possession
- The Railsplitters responded with three straight baskets to lead 13-4 with 80 seconds left in the opening quarter
- LMU led 14-6 after 10 minutes
SECOND QUARTER
- Catawba went on a 7-0 run to start the second period; Julie Janus' triple cut Catawba's deficit to a single point
- LMU immediately responded with a three-pointer and led 20-15 with four minutes left in the half
- Baskets from Imani Williams and Goodlett returned the LMU lead to one point
- A 5-0 run to end the half fueled by Goodlett's and-one gave Catawba its first lead of the game right before the half, holding a 24-22 advantage after 20 minutes
THIRD QUARTER
- Catawba picked up where it left off in the second half, extending their run to 9-0 with Foskey and Goodlett buckets to extend their lead to six
- Two three-pointers sparked a 12-0 LMU run to take the lead back, ahead 40-34 with under a minute left in the period
- Foskey's buzzer-beating tip-in capped a 6-0 Catawba run in response to tie the game at 40 heading into the final 10 minutes
FOURTH QUARTER
- The teams traded baskets early on in the fourth until Wilson's jumper near the midway point gave Catawba some breathing room, leading by five
- LMU cut their deficit to two at the 2:09 mark on a Lexi Patty layup, trailing 50-48
- It would be the last points Lincoln Memorial would score on the afternoon, as Catawba shut out the Railsplitters for the final 129 seconds and kept LMU to eight points in the final period to pull out the road victory and the season sweep

- Catawba extends their win streak over LMU to nine games
