
McCutcheon nets 100th career win as Women’s Basketball’s rolls vs. Emory & Henry
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team led by 25 in the fourth quarter, rolling to a win over Emory & Henry to complete the three-game sweep of their South Atlantic Conference homestand, as head coach Terence McCutcheon earned his 100th career win as Catawba's head coach.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba shot 31-for-71 (44 percent) from the field, while Emory & Henry was 22-of-62 (36 percent) from the floor
- The Catawba Indians drilled a season-best 11 three-pointers on 34 attempts (32 percent), while holding the Wasps to 7-for-28 (25 percent) from deep
- Catawba made the most of limited opportunities, going 6-for-7 (86 percent) at the foul line; E&H was equally impressive, shooting 16-of-19 (84 percent) from the charity stripe
- The Catawba Indians held a slight 41-38 rebounding edge, as the Wasps held the 13-9 advantage in second-chance points
- Catawba recorded 21 assists to 24 turnovers, while E&H had 10 assists to 26 turnovers; Emory & Henry led 26-22 in points off turnovers
- The Catawba Indians led in points in the paint (34-28) and bench points (36-23); the Wasps scored 18 fastbreak points to Catawba's 13
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Bailee Goodlett scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting with six rebounds and five assists
- Nala Baker added 13 points with three three-pointers
- Abi Svenson was the third Catawba Indian in double figures with 11 points with three triples of her own
- Natalie Fuertes Lara matched a program single-game record with nine steals to go with six points and four assists
- Janiya Foskey and Saniya Wilson chipped in eight points apiece
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Catawba jumped out to a 7-2 lead after Foskey's layup at the 6:48 mark
- The Wasps immediately answered with a three-pointer and a layup to tie the game
- Back-to-back Wilson three-pointers sparked an 8-0 run that pushed the Catawba Indians back out in front
- Foskey added another bucket in the closing seconds to take a 21-11 lead after 10 minutes
SECOND QUARTER
- Fuertes Lara's quick steal and layup extended the Catawba advantage to 14 points near the midway point
- A pair of Gracyn Hall layups got the Wasps right back within ten
- The Catawba lead shrunk to six after six unanswered E&H points
- Baker and Goodlett triples gave Catawba breathing heading into the half, leading 45-33
THIRD QUARTER
- The Wasps once again cut their deficit to six points midway through the third quarter
- Baker and Svenson combined for 13 points of a 15-0 Catawba run four-plus minutes to blow the game wide open
- Kairah Dixon-Booker's and-one made it a 66-42 lead with 10 minutes remaining
FOURTH QUARTER
- E&H scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to get the Catawba lead back under 20 points
- Svenson rained in two more long-range three-pointers and Jameria Robinson's triple made it a 25-point lead at the 5:48 mark
- The Wasps went on a 15-0 run of their own, but the game result was never threatened, as two Goodlett free throws down the stretch iced the Catawba victory
GAME NOTES
- McCutcheon's 100th career win in 129 career games as Catawba's head coach
- McCutcheon is now the fastest to reach the 100-career win milestone in program history
- John Duncan won his 100th career game in his 134th career game on the Catawba bench
- Lara Fuertes' nine steals was the most for a Catawba Indian since Shemya Stanback's nine steals in a win over Lenoir-Rhyne in 2021
