Ingram pours in career-best in Women’s Basketball’s win over LMU

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team bounced back in its return to Goodman Arena on Saturday, defeating Lincoln Memorial 66-59 behind Brooklin Ingram's career-high 21 points in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba shot 25-for-58 (43 percent) from the field, while holding Lincoln Memorial to 20-of-61 (33 percent) from the floor

- The Catawba Indians were 4-for-14 (29 percent) from three-point range; the Railsplitters went 7-of-30 (23 percent) from deep

- Catawba was 12-for-14 (86 percent) from the free throw line and LMU was 12-for-20 (60 percent) from the charity stripe

- Lincoln Memorial out-rebounded the Catawba Indians 42-39 with 19 offensive rebounds, but was only able to take a 15-14 advantage in second-chance points

- Catawba recorded 14 assists to 18 turnovers, while LMU had 12 assists to 21 turnovers; the Catawba Indians held a 21-15 edge in points off turnovers

- Catawba led in points in the paint (36-24) and fastbreak points (13-2), while LMU held a one-point lead in bench points, 18-17

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Ingram poured in a career-high 21 points on 7-for-17 shooting with seven rebounds

- Janiya Foskey posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds 

- Nala Baker was the third Catawba Indian in double figures with 10 points and three assists

- Saniya Wilson added eight points off the bench

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST QUARTER

- After Lincoln Memorial connected on the opening three-pointer, Catawba scored the next six for an early lead 

- Foskey's layup extended Catawba's lead to 14-5 at the midway point of the opening period

- The Railsplitters tightened the gap with the game's next six points to pull within a possession at the 3:18 mark

- Back-to-back Baker baskets pushed Catawba out in front again, but a late Kamil Collier triple made it an 18-14 Catawba lead after 10 minutes

 

SECOND QUARTER

- An 11-2 run for the Railsplitters turned the lead in their favor after Matty Tanner's pair of free throws made it 25-22 near the six-minute mark

- Goodlett and Kairah Dixon-Booker layups swung the advantage back in Catawba's favor to force an LMU timeout

- The Railsplitters responded with two straight buckets to take the lead, but Baker responded with a triple as the leads began to change hands often

- The teams entered the break tied at 31

 

THIRD QUARTER

- Neither team led by more than three points until Federica Lagana's three-pointer gave the Railsplitters a 45-40 lead at the 2:47 mark

- Ingram and Natalie Fuertes Lara canned back-to-back three-pointers to spark a 7-0 run that returned Catawba's lead, 47-45

- Jamyah Winter's basket tied the game again after the end of the third quarter at 47

 

FOURTH QUARTER

- LMU's Tanner drilled a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter, but an Ingram layup and a pair of Bailee Goodlett free throws gave Catawba the lead once again

- Winer's triple returned the advantage to the Railsplitters near the midway point

- The Catawba Indians kept LMU scoreless for over the next three minutes, scoring the game's next six points to take a four-point lead following Wilson's layup

- Despite another LMU three-pointer, Catawba converted free throws down the stretch to salt the game away and win by a 66-59 final

 

GAME NOTES

- Ingram's previous career-high was the 12 points she scored in the loss at Carson-Newman last week; her second double-digit scoring game for the sophomore

- McCutcheon's 98th career win

- Only John Duncan (1996-03) and Angie Morton (2003-18) have reached 100-win milestone at Catawba

- The Catawba Indians extend their win streak over LMU to eight games

- Catawba has won its last nine league home openers
