
#21 Men’s Tennis moves to 2-0 in SAC play with 5-0 win over UVA Wise
Salisbury, N.C. —- The 21st-ranked Catawba College men's tennis team continued its winning ways on Thursday at the Johnson Tennis Courts, sweeping its way to a win over UVA Wise, 5-0, in South Atlantic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Catawba's #2s pair of Agustin Mastri and Luca Bergonzi earned a swift 6-2 win in doubles play
- The top-ranked duo of Mateo Berne and Thomas Kostka clinched the doubles point with a come-from-behind 6-4 win in doubles play
- Ryosuke Inagawa and Sebastian Zabala led 5-4 in #3 doubles play at the point of stoppage
SINGLES
- Mastri cruised his way to a 6-0, 6-1 win in #2 singles action
- Kostka picked up a similarly paced victory in #3s play, 6-1, 6-0
- Alessandro Valleta earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over the UVA Wise #5s player, effectively clinching the match
- Berne's 6-1, 7-5 win over Wise's #1 player ended at virtually the same time, so both matches counted toward the winning Catawba total
- Inagawa won the opening set 6-3 and trailed 5-3 in the second as play ended
- Bergonzi fell in his opening set 7-6, but took the first point of set two before the end of the match
