Minichowski earns Men’s Swimmer of the Meet as #11 Men’s Swimming earns second at SAC Championships

Greensboro, N.C. — The 11th-ranked Catawba College men's swimming team finished second at the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday evening, as sophomore Maks Minichowski earned Men's Swimmer of the Meet, earning his fourth individual title of the week.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

1650 Yard Freestyle

- Nazar Herashcenko competed until the final reach, just finishing second by a tenth of a second in the 1650 Freestyle with a B-cut time of 15:23.55

- Jurek Larys and Elias Hysing also earned top-eight finishes for the Catawba Indians, placing fourth and sixth, respectively

 

100 Yard Freestyle

- Minichowski earned his fourth SAC title of the week in the 100 Free, sweeping each of the freestyle sprint events on the week with a blazing 43.17 mark in the 100

- Juan Diego Celis also earned a spot in the championship heat, finishing eighth

 

200 Yard Backstroke

- Alejando Alvarez was the top Catawba finisher in the 200 Backstroke, earning a podium finish of third place with a mark of 1:47.52

- Joao Oliveira finished seventh with a time of 1:53.00

 

200 Yard Breaststroke

- Ryan Case earned a runner-up finish in the 200 Breaststroke, less than a second behind the meet champion with a time of 2:01.17

- Rowan Viles and Balazs Meszaros were fourth and sixth, respectively

 

400 Yard Freestyle Relay

- Catawba's 400 free relay team of Celis, Minichowski, Lassi Niemi and Case finished as the runner-up with a mark of 2:58.11

 

WRAP UP OF THE WEEK

- Catawba's men finished second for the second straight year

- Minichowsi earned Swimmer of the Meet for the first time in his career, earning four individual titles on the week

- Catawba returns to the pool in two weeks, competing in the Emory Last Chance Invite for one final tune-up before the NCAA Division II National Championships in March
