Men's Golf shatters two-round program record, stands second at The Rendleman

SALISBURY, N.C. – After Monday action in the Richard Rendleman Invitational, the Catawba College men's golf team holds the second-place slot heading into the final round at the Country Club of Salisbury.

Ilia Antoniadis is positioned fourth in the 75-player field, carding 67-70 with nine birdies to stand at five-under par. The freshman's four-under first round is the squad's second-best mark this season. Off to his strongest start since arriving in the 'Bury, Allan Lockwood sits in fifth place at 139 (-3) featuring a bogey-less second round.

Just outside the top five is Paul Esnault as the sophomore shot a 67 before finishing with a score of 140 to stand T-6th. Pranay Kapur recorded a 143 (+1) with a par round as Connor Carter completes the "A" squad at 155 (+13).

Catawba's second team is led by Justin Nagy and Ryan Masterton at T-10th with an even-par opening day. Luke Nelson shares the 28th spot with Tanner Frye following their 71-76 performances to finish five-over par. A pair of 77s for Hayden Mincey places the Charleston, S.C. native in T-47th.

The Catawba Indians' two-round score of 559 (-9) goes into the program record books as the best outing ever, obliterating the strokes and against-par records set in 2008 by nine shots. On the team leaderboard, Catawba's "A" group ranks second as the "B" group is T-4th.

Emory & Henry brings a seven-shot advantage into the third round at 552 (-16) thanks to Jordan Kaung Kyaw (133, -9) and Will Watson (134, -8) who occupy the top two individual positions.

The final round of The Rendleman commences tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
