
PREVIEW: Men's Golf looks to defend Salisbury at The Rendleman
SALISBURY, N.C. – After a trip to the West Coast, the Catawba College men's golf team hosts the Richard Rendleman Invitational at The Country Club of Salisbury on Oct. 7 and 8.
Catawba won last year's event with a team score of 875 (+23) while placing a second team in sixth with a 951 (+99). In the previous 30 editions of The Rendleman, the Catawba Indians prevailed six times including the past two. The CC of Salisbury, founded in 1919, features a par-71 course designed by Donald Ross that stretches 3,154 yards.
As a team, Catawba has placed second and eighth in its first two events of the 2024 campaign with four top-10 finishers. Paul Esnault was victorious in the season opener at the Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational as he carded a 208 (-8) to lead the field by five shots. Ilia Antoniadis and Allan Lockwood each tallied a 222 (+6) which tied for ninth place. In last weekend's Western Washington University Invitational, Antoniadis had a sensational T-7th placement using two three-under par rounds to finish at 211 (-5).
Esnault holds a team-best 71.3 strokes per round as Antoniadis stands around par at 72.2 while Pranay Kapur is shooting a 73.3 on average. Lockwood ranks fourth on the team with a 75.2 stroke average followed by Connor Carter's 79.0 and Luke Nelson's 80.3 marks.
