Women’s Volleyball bested by Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Catawba College women's volleyball team endured a 3-0 setback in South Atlantic Conference action at Anderson on Tuesday night.

 

TEAM STATS

- Anderson (13-7, 9-3) hit a firm .262 while Catawba (3-12, 1-7 SAC) had its lowest hitting percentage of the season at -.010

- The Catawba Indians had better success in service, acing the Trojans twice with just three errors (.938) compared to the home squad's three aces and six miscues (.918)

- The Trojans reached above the net for nine blocks as Catawba recorded four stops

- Side-out rates for Anderson were over 50 percent in each set; on the opposing side, the blue and white were held below the mark in each of the three stanzas

 

INDIVIDUAL STATS

- Kelcie Love totaled a team-high six kills as Sofia Beard landed five strikes

- Beard and Jordan Danielson shared the top hitting percentage mark of .167 on 12 swings apiece

- Haley Moffett was credited with 15 of Catawba's 22 assists

- Riley Hill led the way in digs, tallying 15 on the night followed by Kary Hales and Riannel Arevalo with eight and seven, respectively

- Lillie Kate Rogers leapt for a solo block and one assist while Sydney Wattles collected two block assists at the net

- Moffett and Wattles each logged a service ace

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set

- Kills by Love and Danielson helped Catawba go point-for-point at the get-go

- Following Wattles' ace to make it 7-7, Ellie Nieporte went on a service streak that drew both of Catawba's timeouts

- Clark and Danielson had successful swings with an ensuing block cutting the gap to 16-10

- A 9-2 run featuring two aces and two Ava Reeves kills locked up a victorious 25-12 set for Anderson

 

Second Set

- Karley Black led the Trojans in a hot start for the hosts before Katie Clark and Devyn Berg dropped in spikes to stop the flood

- Wattles killed a volley and blocked another which slimmed the deficit to 9-6

- The offensive remedies delivered by Danielson and Rogers prevented Anderson from building as large of an edge

- Emily Campbell's swing power and robust blocking helped the Trojans down the stretch, helping them seal the second frame, 25-17

 

Third Set

- After Brantley Chipley's set-starting kill, Beard notched the next dart and shared a block with Wattles

- Impressive kills from Beard and Love kept Catawba in the picture for 30 points, the latter connecting on the point that bumped the score to 15-15

- Chipley and Ellie Nieporte had hands in four straight points, but Love fired back with a couple of kills

- At 21-17, Anderson absorbed the final four tallies to defend home court in a 3-0 triumph
