
Women’s Volleyball swept at Tusculum Friday night
Greeneville, Tenn. —- The Catawba College women's volleyball team fell on the road at Tusculum University on Friday night in South Atlantic Conference action from Pioneer Arena in Greeneville, Tenn.
TEAM STATS
- Tusculum had 35 kills to Catawba's 31
- The Pioneers hit .212 while holding the Catawba Indians to .092
- TU recorded 34 assists; Catawba dished out 26 assists
- Tusculum recorded nine service aces to Catawba's two
- The Pioneers edged out Catawba in digs 46-45
- TU recorded the only six blocks of the match
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Kelcie Love had a team-highs of 11 kills on 31 swings
- Rachel Gonzales added seven kills
- Siena Roethler led the team with 13 assists; Dara Kine recorded nine
- Devyn Berg logged both service aces for Catawba
- Riley Hill recorded a team-high 12 digs
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Tusculum took an early 5-1 lead in set one after an Emiah Burrowes kill
- Catawba took three straight points before the Pioneers responded with four straight of their own to force a Catawba timeout leading 9-4
- Catawba took its second timeout after a string of three straight Tusculum points, as the Pioneers led 16-9
- The Catawba Indians had back-to-back kills from Chloe Danielson and Love, but the Pioneers responded with another streak of four straight points to hold a 23-14 advantage
- Bailey Parker's kill sealed the set one win for TU
SECOND SET
- The teams traded points early in set two, but Tusculum created the first separation with a 5-2 advantage
- Natalie Rehm's kill was answered with five straight TU points as the home team took a 13-5 lead midway through the set
- After the Pioneers took a 20-10 lead, Love's kill started a run of four straight Catawba points, capped by back-to-back Berg aces
- Catawba fought off two set points, but a service error gave the Pioneers the 2-0 set lead
THIRD SET
- Chloe and Jordan Danielson each had a kill early on in set three
- Love and Jordan Danielson kills led a 4-1 run for Catawba, tying the set at 8
- Tusculum distanced itself before Catawba came clawing back again, winning five of six points to cut their deficit to 15-14 to force a Tusculum timeout
- The Pioneers answered from the timeout with five straight points to retake a six-point lead
- Catawba cut their deficit to three points, but could not get any closer, as Lauren Weaver's sealed the sweep for TU
