
Women’s Volleyball falls in tight match at Lenoir-Rhyne
Hickory, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's volleyball team dropped a tight four-set match in the South Atlantic Conference Friday night, falling at Lenoir Rhyne 3-1.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba recorded more kills than the Bears 61-54
- Lenoir-Rhyne hit .164 to Catawba's .154
- Catawba had 53 assists to LR's 49
- The Bears had a 7-4 advantage in service aces
- The Catawba Indians had an 82-77 advantage in digs
- LR held a slight edge in blocks 17-14
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Maillie Chretien led the way with 16 kills on a team-high 52 swings with 18 digs
- Jordan Danielson was the other Catawba player to record double-digit kills with 15 along with 10 digs
- Katrina Misra added seven kills on 27 swings
- Siena Roethler recorded a career-high 45 assists to go along with 13 digs
- Riley Hill had a game-high 20 digs
- Natalie Rehm led Catawba with five blocks
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- An attack error put Lenoir-Rhyne up 6-3 early in the first set
- A five-point run from the Bears had them leading 18-11
- Catawba stormed back in the set, as Chretien's kills tied the game at 24
- Two straight LR kills clinched the set for the Bears
SECOND SET
- Lenoir-Rhyne's attack error gave Catawba a 5-3 lead early on in set two
- The Bears led 10-7 after a mini-run
- Four straight Catawba points capped by a Katie Clark kill put the visitors ahead 11-10
- Catawba led 16-13 after Chretien's ace
- The two sides traded points the rest of the way, as Chretien's kill won the second set for Catawba 25-21
THIRD SET
- The Catawba Indians held a small lead for much of the early portion of set three
- Three straight points for the Bears gave them a 15-13 lead
- Later, LR strung together six straight points to take a 21-14 advantage
- Catawba stormed all the way back, tying the set at 24 after Danielson's kill
- Like the first set, the Bears won the next two points on attack errors
FOURTH SET
- The Bears led 15-8 midway through the fourth set
- Catawba once again clawed its way back to within a point at 19-18 after another Danielson kill
- An LR attack error tied the set at 23
- The two continued to trade points until the two were locked at 26
- Emmaleigh Allen's kill sealed the match, as LR won the fourth set 28-26
UP NEXT
- Catawba turns right back around on Saturday, traveling to Charleston (W.V.) to take on the Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m.
