Volleyball Ends Season With Sweep Over Coker
HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Catawba closed out its 2022 volleyball season with a three-set sweep of host Coker on Saturday afternoon at the DeLoach Center. The Catawba Indians won the South Atlantic Conference match 25-11, 25-23 and 25-14 to finish at 8-17 overall and 6-12 in the SAC. The Cobras end at 5-20 and 2-16.
Kelcie Love led a balanced Catawba attack with eight kills. Raytchelle Miranda, Katie Clark and Lauren Bodell each followed with seven kills. Clark added three blocks with Miranda posting two, while Bodell added 11 digs and served two aces. Libero Kary Hales dug 17 balls with setter Dara Kane delivering 27 assists.
Down 6-5 early in set one, Catawba used a 12-4 run to take a comfortable lead. Catawba went on to score the final eight points of the set with two of the last three coming on aces from Bodell.
Catawba pulled out a tight second set. Down at 19-18, the Lady Indians scored six of the next seven points to lead 24-20. Coker closed within a point before Miranda killed off the set point.
The Lady Indians ran out to a quick 12-4 lead in the final set. Catawba kept a big lead moving out to a 21-11 edge. Catawba scored the final four point with Clark and Love killing off the final points of the match.
Chelsey Blume led Coker with eight kills, but the Cobras hit a negative percentage with 23 errors and just 21 kills. Makayla Harris had 13 digs, while Taylor Hills and Nialah Gupton serving two aces.
