Volleyball Falls to Lenoir-Rhyne on Senior Night

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College volleyball team hosted Senior Night on Friday as the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears came to town. The Bears swept Catawba 25-18 in all three sets. 

Catawba never led in Friday's South Atlantic Conference matchup, and LR charged ahead 12-4 in the opening set. The Bears never looked back on their way to a 25-18 set one victory, and held Catawba to a 0% hitting percentage. 

In set two, Catawba had 13 total kills, their most of the night, from five different players. Devyn Berg, Lauren Bodell, Ashley Johnson, Kelcie Love, and Katie Clark all got into the box score with kills. After trailing 15-9, Catawba used a 5-1 run to get within two points, 16-14. The Indians were able to keep it a two-point game at 19-17, but the Bears closed out the set on a 6-1 scamper to take set two. 

Lenoir-Rhyne got out to a 9-2 lead early on in the third set, but Catawba came right back with six points in a row to bring the score to 11-9. The visiting Bears put things away behind a 7-0 run which allowed them to go in front, 19-10, and they closed out the third set 25-18. 

Kelcie Love had eight kills and senior, Ashley Johnson had six. Kary Hales recorded 12 digs , and Dara Kane had 25 assists. 

The volleyball team will play their final home game on Tuesday in a rescheduled match against Anderson on Tuesday.
