
Clay, Caudill earn SAC titles, Cockerham is Elite 23 award winner for Women’s Track and Field at SAC Outdoor Championships
Hickory, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's track and field team earned two South Atlantic Conference championships at this year's league meet, as Madi Clay won the 10K event for the third straight year, while Hannah Caudill picked up the 5K individual title. Additionally, senior Sydney Cockerham was named the SAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Wealth Enhancement Group Elite 23 winner.
HOW IT HAPPENED
100-Meter Dash - Preliminaries
- Mallory Witherspoon was the top Catawba finisher in the women's 100m dash, posting a mark of 12.07 seconds
200-Meter Dash - Preliminaries
- Efe Egberi was the top Catawba finisher in the preliminary round of the 200m dash, just missing out on qualifying for the final by seven-thousandths of a second
400-Meter Dash - Preliminaries
- Catawba sent three women to the 400m dash finals with top-eight finishes
- Egberi was once again first among Catawba Indians with a sixth-place 56.34
- Onii Bivens and Skylar Southern finished out a Catawba pack, placing seventh and eighth with times of 56.72 and 57.04
- Letsi Burgos also placed inside the top 12 with a mark of 58.32
400-Meter Dash - Finals
- Bivens jumped up three spots from her seed from the preliminaries with a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash with a mark of 55.63
- Egberi was right behind her in fifth with a 55.70 effort; Southern placed eighth with a run of 58.36 seconds
800-Meter Run - Preliminaries
- Eden Barnwell and Joanna Owczarz both punched their ticket to the finals in the 880m run with top-eight finishes in the preliminary round
800-Meter Run - Finals
- Owczarz earned a fifth-place finish in Thursday's finals, posting a mark of 2:16.69
- Barnwell was eighth with an effort of 2:18.15
1500-Meter Run - Preliminaries
- Natalie Almond was the top Catawba finisher in the 1500m run, finishing third with a time of 4:40.68
- Emer Mcglynn also earned a spot in the final with a 10th-place finish, good for 4:43.14
1500-Meter Run - Finals
- Almond was the league runner-up in the women's 1500m run, turning in an effort of 4:36.15
- Mcglynn was 12th with a mark of 4:53.57
5,000-Meter Run
- Hannah Caudill claimed her first conference title of her career in the women's 5K, posting a meet-best mark of 17:17.93
- Clay and Almond were not far behind, placing third and fifth
- Sydney Cockerham was the fourth Catawba Indian to earn a top-12 finish with a time of 18:21.70
10,000-Meter Run
- Madi Clay was the SAC champion in the women's 10K on Wednesday night, finishing over 13 seconds clear of the field and nearly breaking 36 minutes with a time of 36:00.66
- Caudill was fourth with a time of 36:34.06
Long Jump
- Egberi was the conference runner-up in the women's long jump, reaching a mark of 5.91 meters
- Haleigh Washington also turned in a top-12 finish, reaching 5.25 meters, good for 11th
4x100-Meter Relay
- Catawba's team of Bivens, Egberi, Witherspoon and Southern were the runner-up in the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.46
4x400-Meter Relay
- Catawba's relay team of Burgos, Bivens, Southern and Egberi placed fourth in the women's 4x400 relay, earning a time of 3:41.61
