Clay earns opening WePlayed Sports SAC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Rock Hill, S.C. —- Catawba College junior Madi Clay earned the season's first WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning.

Clay was the top collegiate finisher in the women's 5K run at the Charlotte 49er Classic on Saturday, besting Division I runners from Queens, USC Upstate, Charlotte and Mercer.

The junior and returning All-American set the fourth-fastest mark in program history with the effort, completing the 5,000 meters in 17:01.13. Clay now holds six of the top seven outdoor 5K marks in program history.

Clay and the Catawba Indians continue action this week at the Davidson and Raleigh Relays on Thursday.
