
Three Track and Field school records fall at Pre-Nationals on Friday
Virginia Beach, Va. —- The Catawba College men's and women's indoor track and field teams continued action on Valentines' Day at the Division I Pre-Nationals meet in Virginia Beach, watching three more school records fall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
5000 Meter Run
- Madi Clay and Hannah Caudill finished first and second in the 5000 Meter Run, topping Division I runners from Towson and Norfolk State
- Clay led the pack with a time of 17:22.83, while Caudill was the runner-up at 17:35.42
800 Meter Run
- Sydney Cockerham finished ninth overall in the 800-meter run and first among Division II runners with a mark of 2:19.90
- Joanna Owczarz placed two spots behind in 11th with a time of 2:21.51
400 Meter Dash
- Letsi Burgos picked up a top-10 finish in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 58.66
60 Meter Dash
- Mallory Witherspoon tied her own school record in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 7.64
- Win Porter finished first on the men's side with a time of 6.75; Darius Turner finished fourth with a mark of 6.89
1 Mile Run
- Natalie Almond broke the school record in the women's mile for the second consecutive week, becoming the first to break a sub-5 minute mile with a time of 4:59.47
- Emer Mcglynn (fourth) and Eden Barnwell (sixth) also earned top-10 finishes on the women's side
- Seth Caudill, Will Lyons and Oussama Ajala went 1-2-3 on the men's side; Caudill broke a school record in the mile with a time of 4:13.35
Long Jump
- Both Efe Egberi and Javi Gomez-Wilson earned spots in the finals with their marks in Friday's preliminary round
