Two Track and Field school records fall at Camel City Distance meet

Winston-Salem, N.C. —- The Catawba College indoor track and field distance runners hit the track at the JDL Fast Track on Saturday at the Camel City Distance meet.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

5000 Meter Run

- Madi Clay finished first in the women's 5K to open the day, finishing nearly 17 seconds ahead of the field with a mark of 17:56.96

- Carson Wells placed sixth in the 5K with a time of 15:23.99

 

800 Meter Run

- Eden Barnwell posted a school-record 2:14.15 in the 800, finishing third in a heat littered with Division I runners; her time was good for an NCAA mark

- Charity Davies and Joanna Owczarz also added top-20 finishes for the Catawba Indians

 

3000 Meter Run

- Hannah Caudill hit an NCAA mark in the 3K, finishing sixth overall and first among Division II runners with a time of 9:56.71

- Rachel Overby placed 26th with a time of 11:08.09

- Oussama Ajala placed eighth in the 3K with a time of 8:30.41

- Anthony Lecorche was Catawba's other top-25 finisher with a mark of 8:46.18, good for 21st

 

1 Mile Run

- Natalie Almond broke the school record in the mile with a time of 5:01.19, earning fifth place and first among Division II runners

- Emer Mcglynn finished seventh overall to earn the third-best mile time in school history with a mark of 5:05.50

- Will Lyons ran the third-fastest mile in program history with a 4:14.83 to finish fourth in the event

- Catawba returns to action next week, traveling to participate in the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals meet
