Catawba Track and Field took home three event wins led by Porter, Gomez-Wilson, and Witherspoon at the Tryon Collegiate Opener

 

MILL SPRING, N.C.-- Catawba Track and Field competed in some midweek action at Tryon Collegiate Opener Tuesday night hosted by Newberry College. A small group of sprinters and jumpers made the trip to Mill Spring, North Carolina and the early season success followed. 

MEET RECAP 

Sprints 

60M 

Women- Mallory Witherspoon won the women's 60m final with a completed dash time of 7.90.  

MenWinfred Porter won the men's 60m finals with a time of 6.85.  

 

Jumps 

High Jump 

Men-Drew Costello placed fourth in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.85m.  

 

Long Jump 

Men- Junior, Javier Gomez-Wilson won the men's long jump competition leaping 7.09m. He was joined in the event by teammates Chris Brown and Drew Costello who jumped 6.71m and 6.45m respectively to place fourth and fifth. 

 

Triple Jump 

Men-Brown and Gomez-Wilson we back in competition later to take on the men's triple jump. Brown took second place in the event with a mark of 13.85m while Gomez-Wilson jumped 13.57m to place third.  

 

Up Next 

Both Catawba Track and Field programs will be back in action Saturday, February 10, at the Joe LaRocco Invitational hosted by Roanoke College.
