School Records and multiple First Place finishes highlights COROS Collegiate Challenge

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. - - The Catawba Track & Field team saw numerous first-place finishes, school records and NCAA provisional marks at the COROS Collegiate Challenge held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The meet was highlighted by Everette Rhymer setting a school record in the men's 1000 meters, Namaurion Koontz broke the school record in the men's high jump, and Natalie Almond setting a school record in the women's 3000 meter race.

The Men's 4x400 team took first place with a time of 3:32.05. The team consisted of Jaylen Currence, Anthony Holden, Chandon Smith, and Nazir Reid.

 

The Women's 4x400 team also took first in the event with a time of 4:08.11. The relay team consisted of Onil Bivens, Kierra Jones, Gianna Gutierrez, and Skylar Payne.

 

In individual events, Sophomore Josh Warstler took first place in the men's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.34. Teammate Rashaun Noble took second with a time of 8.37. 

 

The men's 200 meter dash was won by Barja Walter with a time of 22.27.

 

Samantha Payne won the women's 400 meter run with a time of 57.49. 

 

Catawba also had a big day in distance events.

 

Erick Ramirez claimed first place in two events on Sunday. In the men's 1 mile race, Ramirez took the top podium spot with a time of 4:19.81. He followed that performance up with a first-place finish in the 3000 meter race with a time of 8:33.23.

 

Freshman Natalie Almond claimed the school record and the top podium spot in the women's 3000 meter competition with a time of 10:32.50. 

Everette Rhymer set a school record in the men's 1000 meter run with a time of 2:33.98. 

In the men's field events, Namaurion Koontz broke the school record in the men's high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters.

 

In women's field events, MeKayla White claimed two first place finishes and had a NCAA provisional mark in the long jump. She won the women's long jump with a leap of 5.85 meters. White also saw first-place success in the women's triple jump competition with a score of 11.67 meters.
