
Indoor Track & Field Sets Three Marks at JDL Early Bird Inv.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Catawba's Indoor Track & Field team recently opened its season at the JDL Early Bird Invitational. The event was held at the JDL Fast Track. Catawba posted a couple of school marks in the opening meet. Samantha Payne set new marks in the women's 200m and 400m, while Everette Rhymer broke the men's 800m record.
Payne won the 400m race in a time of 56.92. That time is a NCAA II provisional time and is the eighth best in D2 this season. Her time of 25.24 in the 200m is also an provisional time and is the second-best time for D2. Rhymer was second in the 800m with his record time of 1:54.89 just a tenth off the winning time.
Catawba posted several other top performances. Antonio Howard on the men's long jump with a jump of 6.88m and Javier Gomez-Wilson was third. Rashaun Noble was second in the 60m and Barja Walter was second in the 200m.
For the women, Efemena Egberi was third in the long jump and MeKayla White fourth. White was runner up in the triple jump at 11.29m.
Catawba will return to action after the holiday break, competing at the COROS Collegiate Challenge on Jan. 22 at the JDL Fast Track.
