Women’s Tennis slated second in preseason SAC poll; Miya and Wise named preseason all-league

Rock Hill, S.C. —- The Catawba College women's tennis team was picked to finish second in the South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches' poll, the league office announced Friday morning. Additionally, Ami Miya and Anna Wise earned preseason All-SAC recognition.

Wingate was voted the league favorite with 11 first-place votes, while the reigning SAC Tournament champion Catawba Indians were picked second with the remaining two first-place votes. Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman, Newberry, Limestone, Tusculum and Anderson rounded out the projected SAC Tournament field, while Coker, Lincoln Memorial, UVA Wise, Emory & Henry and Mars Hill concluded the coaches' tally.

Miya was voted a preseason First Team singles selection following an All-SAC First Team selection in 2024. The sophomore was 13-6 in regular season singles action, going 11-5 against opponents' #1s. Miya earned the clinching point in the 2024 SAC Championship match over 6th-ranked Wingate, helping her earn Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

Wise joins Miya as the top doubles pair for Catawba this season, as the duo picked up preseason second team honors from the league. Miya and Wise were 5-1 together once the latter returned to play from injury and were a perfect 3-0 in regular season SAC play.

The Catawba Indians open up regular season play in the spring at home on Saturday, Feb. 15, hosting North Greenville.
