
#46 Men's, Women's Tennis roll to SAC wins over Mars Hill
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's and women's tennis teams both rolled to 6-1 wins over the visiting Mars Hill Lions on Friday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center, with the men improving to 7-6 overall and 6-1 in SAC play -- their most conference wins in a season in program history -- while the women climb to 10-4 and 5-2 in conference action
HOW IT HAPPENED
Catawba Men 6, Mars Hill Men 1
- Both Catawba's No. 1 pairing of Mateo Berne and Marcos Casteres and No. 3 pairing of Tyler Juergens and Paul Dekesterearned 6-2 victories, with Berne and Casteres defeating Paulo Gutierrez and Diego Lopez while Juergens and Dekester took down Marcos Martinez and Youssef Ardouni
- On the No. 2 court, Edoardo Cecere and Ryan Little picked up a dominant 6-0 win over Diell Mehmedi and Sasha Molina as Catawba swept the Doubles point, 3-0
- Cecere led off with a win in Singles as well, taking Gutierrez down 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 1 position to give Catawba a 2-0 lead
- Juergens would follow suit on the No. 2 court, taking Martinez down 6-3 in the first set before giving Catawba a 3-0 lead with a clutch 7-5 victory in the second set
- Marko Sudarwould be defeated in two sets on Court No. 3 by Molina, 6-1 and 6-4 for Mars Hill's lone point
- Alessandro Vallettawould hand Catawba a 4-1 lead on Court No. 4, rolling past Memedi with a 6-2 opening set and 6-1 second frame
- Little was terrific from the No. 5 position, defeating Ardouni in two sets with a pair of 6-1 victories
- Casteres capped off the victory on the No. 6 court, defeating Chase Jorensen 8-0 in one set to give Catawba their sixth and final point in the rout

Catawba Women 6, Mars Hill Women 1
- It would be a dominant start for Catawba's women, who set the done by sweeping the Doubles point with a trio of 6-1 victories.
- Ami Miya and Rin Igarashi took down Elana Mackey and Amalie Anderson on Court No. 1, with Veronika Poliakova and Sofia Hernandez Merafollowing suit by defeating Lilah Dean and Maria Razzetta on Court No. 2. Nika Dundovic and Tina Gomescompleted the sweep from the No. 3 position, downing Lauren Schave and Gracie Arrowood
- Miya would be defeated on the No. 1 singles court in three sets by Mackey, who gave Mars Hill their lone point of the affair. Miya took a 6-1 decision in the first set, only for Mackey to battle back with two straight 6-2 wins for the point
- Isidora Zivkovic put Catawba back ahead by defeating Anderson in two sets on Court No. 2, 6-3 and 6-1
- Mati Morettiwas dominant from the No. 3 position, sweeping Razzetta in a pair of 6-0 decisions
- Poliakova downed Schave on Court No. 4, taking the first set 6-2 before rolling to a 6-1 victory in the second as Catawba went up 4-1
- Vaishnavi Ventakeshwould take Dean down on Court No. 5, earning a 6-3 win set one and a 6-2 victory in set two
- Hernandez Mera completed the win by earning Catawba's sixth point from the No. 6 position, claiming an 8-3 win over Alizee Grube
