
Tennis splits home match versus Barton
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's tennis team picked up a win over Barton on home Tuesday afternoon, improving to 7-1 on the season. The men fell in a tight match against the Bulldogs, 4-3, dropping to 2-6 on the year.
The women started the match off taking the doubles point as Sofia Hernandez and Carolina Correia extended their undefeated streak in doubles this season with a 6-2 victory and Tina Gomes and Nika Dundovic clinched the point with a 6-4 win.
Catawba went on to take five of six singles matches. Miya Ami kicked it off with a win in #1 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 win and Matilde Morreti added a win in #2 singles 6-2, 6-0. Alexandra Parra took her #4s match 6-1, 6-1, Correia was victorious in #5 singles 6-1, 6-4 and Hernandez claimed the win in #6 singles 6-3, 6-2.
The men were swept in the doubles segment of the match, but split the singles matches.
Marcos Castares claimed a win in #1 singles 6-4, 6-2. Ryan Little was victorious in #3s 6-1, 6-2 and Taketoshi Nanao won #6 singles 6-1, 6-2.
Catawba returns to South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, hosting UVA Wise at 11 a.m.
