
Tennis splits SAC home opener vs Limestone
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College tennis teams split their South Atlantic Conference home opener on Wednesday afternoon, as the women defeated the Saints 5-2 and the men fell 4-3. Catawba's women improve to 3-0 on the season, while the men drop to 1-2.
Catawba's women took all three doubles matches to earn the point. Alexandra Parra and Vicky Beardsley took the match 6-4, Sofia Hernandez and Carolina Correia won 6-3 and Nika Dundovic and Tina Gomes took the final doubles match 7-6.
The Catawba Indians took four of six singles matches to earn the point as well – Miya Ami won 6-2, 6-4, Parra took it 6-3, 6-1, Matilde Moretti earned a 6-3, 6-0 win and Correia won #5 singles 6-3, 7-6.
The men also won their doubles point as Marcos Castares and Taketoshi Nanao took the first doubles match 7-6 before Paul Dekester and Sebastian Zabala won 6-2.
The Saints took four of six singles matches to earn the win, however. Dekester won his second match of the day 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, as did Zabala by the final 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
Both teams continue SAC play on the road this weekend, facing Carson-Newman on Saturday.
