#17 Women’s Soccer falls in NCAA Tournament Second Round at #2 Columbus State

Columbus, Ga. —- The 17th-ranked and fourth-seeded Catawba College women's soccer team saw its season end on Sunday afternoon in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Walden Soccer Complex in Columbus, Ga. vs. second-ranked and top-seed Columbus State.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Columbus State out-shot Catawba 24-5

- The Cougars got 13 shots on target compared to the Catawba Indians' one

- CSU recorded seven of 10 corner kicks in the contest

- Columbus State was called for 15 fouls to 11 for Catawba

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

- Catawba was the first to threaten offensively, as Morgan Delair forced the CSU keeper to make a save in the fourth minute

- Columbus State's Abigail Akerson struck for the eventual game-winner in the tenth minute

- Vanessa Aviles added to the Cougar lead in the 13th minute

- CSU made it a three-score lead after Lauren Barnes found Sarah Hungerford in the 25th minute

- Ui Suzuki and Elle Henschel added to the Columbus lead in the 38th and 40th minutes, respectively

 

SECOND HALF

- Ally Fredrick stepped up to make a save on a Hungerford shot early in the second half

- CSU made it a 6-0 lead in the 75th minute on a goal from Kendal Coreil

 

GAME NOTES

- Catawba's sixth straight full season of double-digit wins

- The Catawba Indians reached the round of 32 for the third straight season, one of eight teams with an active streak of three years with an NCAA Tournament win

- First three-year NCAA Tournament win streak in program history

- Catawba falls to 2-6-1 against Columbus State with each of the six losses coming on the road

- During the 2024 season, Catawba became the first SAC program to reach 400 wins all-time

- Head coach Nick Brown stands at 112 career wins, just one away from tying the program record for a head coach
