#19 Women’s Soccer explodes for six goals at Newberry with SAC title within reach

Newberry, S.C. —- The 19th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team exploded for four goals in the opening 22 minutes on Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 6-0 win at Newberry in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action to set up a winner-take-all game next week.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba out-shot Newberry 30-2

- The Catawba Indians recorded 14 shots on goal to one for the Wolves

- Catawba had 11 of 12 corner kicks in the match

- The Catawba Indians were called for 11 of 14 fouls in the contest

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Ali Skinner scored twice from the defensive position

- Callie Hammond notched a goal and an assist

- Bree Ehmer netted the game-winner

- Ella Matthews and Avery Rush also found the back of the net with scores

- Morgan Delair, Lillie Rusher, Kylie Morin and Savannah Singh dished out assists

- Ashley Hughes made one save for the shutout in goal

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

- Alexah Fite got the first shot on goal in the contest in the seventh minute

- Delair drove end line and found Ehmer, who's shot snuck under the crossbar for the game's opening score in the eighth minute

- Catawba found the back of the net for third time off a corner kick; Rusher's high-swinging offering found the head of Skinner for the score

- Hammond followed up with a goal less than three minutes later to put Catawba in control

- Delair forced the Wolves to make another save before the end of the first half with the Catawba Indians firmly ahead, 4-0

 

SECOND HALF

- Morin found Skinner for her second goal of the afternoon in the 55th minute

- Catawba's lead stretched to six goals after Singh's pass found Rush for the score in the 66th minute

- Newberry's lone shot on target came in the 72nd minute, but Hughes stepped up for the save

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba heads to Hickory, N.C. on Wednesday for a winner-take-all regular season finale against 9th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne; first touch is set for 7:30 p.m.
