
Morin’s hat trick highlights #19 Women’s Soccer’s 6-0 win on soggy Senior Night
Salisbury, N.C. —- The 19th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team scored all six of its goals in the second half in the shutout win over Mars Hill on a rain-soaked Frock Field in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday night. Grad student Kylie Morin recorded her first career hat trick in a 15-minute span.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Morin netted three goals
- Lillie Rusher netted the game-winner on a penalty kick
- Lauren Darbo and Avery Rush also found the back of the net in the second half
- Ella Matthews, Alexah Fite, Callie Hammond, Morgan Delair and Megan Michaels each delivered assists in the victory
- Seniors Ashley Hughes and Ally Fredrick combined for the shutout
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- Fite started putting the pressure on early, forcing the MHU keeper to make the save in the second minute
- Ellie Schock's shot attempt hit the crossbar in the ninth minute
- Another long-range attempt from Fite was saved before Hammond put on a pair of shots that were saved to cap a scoreless first half
SECOND HALF
- As the downpour continued from the end of the first half, across halftime and into the second half, Catawba broke through with a penalty-kick opportunity in the 49th minute, which Rusher buried
- Matthews and Fite's passes connected to Morin, her notched her first goal of the evening in the 62nd minute
- Hammond deflected the ball to Morin for another score just over two minutes later to make it a 3-0 Catawba advantage
- Darbo finished off a pass from Delair in the 71st as the goals continued to pour in
- Rush added her score not even a minute later
- Morin capped off the hat trick in the 79th minute on a header off a feed from Michaels
GAME NOTES
- Morin's first collegiate hat trick; first for Catawba since Sydney Jimmo netted three in the season-opening win over Chowan last year
- Morin now takes the team lead with 10 goals scored this season, good for second in the SAC
- Rusher's fourth goal this season; each have been off set-pieces (three PKs, one corner kick) with all four serving as the game-winner
- Third goal of the season for both Darbo and Rush
- Catawba now stands in a tie atop the SAC standings with 23 points with two games to play; Lenoir-Rhyne is the other team tied atop the table with the two set to meet in the regular season finale on Wednesday, Nov. 6
