
#19 Women’s Soccer suffers first loss of season at #3 Columbus State
Columbus, Ga. —- The 19th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team held a 2-1 lead on the road in the second half over 3rd-ranked and unbeaten Columbus State, but the Cougars struck twice to hand the Catawba Indians their first loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon.

- The Cougars recorded nine shots on goal to the Catawba Indians' three

- Both teams committed 12 fouls; Catawba got the lone yellow card
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Bree Ehmer scored twice
- Kylie Morin delivered an assist on one of the scores
- Ashley Hughes recorded six saves in goal
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- The first shot from either team didn't come until CSU recorded a shot in the 15th minute
- Columbus State got on the board one minute later on Abigail Akerson broke through off assists from Beddow and Vanessa Aviles
- CSU's Sarah Hungerford tried to add to the Columbus lead, but Hughes stepped up for the save
- Morin got control of a loose ball off a corner kick and flicked up to the head of Ehmer, who scored to tie the game in the 24th minute
- The Cougars got shots on goal in the 27th and 41st minutes, but Hughes helped keep the game tied at 1 heading into the halftime break
SECOND HALF
- Ehmer scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 55th minute, giving the Catawba Indians the 2-1 lead
- Morin had a good look to make it 3-1 at the 56-minute mark, but the CSU keeper made the save
- Beddow recorded the equalizer on a left-footed strike in the 67th minute
- Columbus State's Akerson look for the winner in the 75th minute, but Hughes made the stop
- The Cougars's Hungerford found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to take the late lead
- Catawba was unable to get a shot off in the final seven minutes for the late equalizer
GAME NOTES
- Columbus State improves to 5-2-1 all-time versus Catawba
- The Cougars have won all five matches in Columbus
- Ehmer's sixth and seventh goals of the season, which ties her once again atop the league lead in goals scored (7) and leads alone in points (17)
- Catawba's first matchup with a top-3 ranked opponent since a loss at #3 Flagler in November 2019; the Catawba Indians are 0-6-2 all-time against top-3 ranked opponents
