#9 Women’s Soccer books first shutout of season, plays to 0-0 draw vs. Montevallo

Salisbury, N.C. —- The 9th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team recorded its first clean sheet of the 2024 season, but was also held scoreless on offense for the first time in 2024, playing to a scoreless draw against Montevallo Saturday afternoon at Frock Field.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Both teams recorded nine shots and put two shots on frame

- Montevallo held the edge in corner kicks, 4-3

- Catawba held the lead in fouls, 9-8, eight of which came in the second half

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Ashley Hughes earned the first clean sheet for Catawba this season, registering two saves on the evening

- Morgan Delair and Bree Ehmer forced the Falcons' keeper into saves

- Ehmer led the way with five shot attempts

- Delair, Kelly Havens, Kylie Morin, Alexah Fite and Maria Rayburn logged 90 minutes on the afternoon

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

- A turnover in Catawba's defense allowed a good look for Montevallo in the sixth minute, but Hughes stepped up for what turned out to be a key save

- The Falcons got another shot on target, their last of the game, in the 13th minute

 

SECOND HALF

- Catawba forced the Montevallo keeper into her first save in the 66th minute on Delair's try

- Ehmer's go for goal was stopped by UM in the 78th minute of action

 

GAME NOTES

- First-ever meeting between the two programs

- Sixth shutout of Hughes' Catawba career

- Catawba is 31-1-7 at Frock Field since the start of the 2021 season

- First back-to-back winless results at Frock Field since end of the 2019 season

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba begins South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, wrapping up the season-opening five-game homestand with a date with Carson-Newman at 5 p.m.
