Ehmer’s late equalizer and OT winner propels #9 Women’s Soccer to region final

Salisbury, N.C. —- Catawba freshman forward Bree Ehmer scored an equalizer in the 87th minute before scoring the game-winner in overtime in the 9th-ranked women's soccer team's thrilling 2-1 overtime win over North Georgia to advance to its first regional final since 2005.

 

TEAM STATS

- Catawba out-shot North Georgia 17-6

- The Catawba Indians held the advantage in shots on goal 10-2

- Catawba had four of the seven corner kicks in the match

- UNG was called for 15 fouls to Catawba's nine; the Nighthawks had the lone yellow card

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Ehmer scored both goals for Catawba and a game-high five shots on goal

- Lillie Rusher provided the assist on the equalizer in regulation

- Helen Summerell assisted on the game-winner

- Ashley Hughes made one save in goal

- Hannah Dunn put two shots on target; McKenzee Johnson added one as well

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

- Johnson put a shot on target in the sixth minute, but it was saved by the team

- Ehmer's first shot on goal was saved in the 43rd minute

- Nikki Gomez put UNG ahead in the 45th minute

 

SECOND HALF

- Dunn and Ehmer had shots on target get saved early in the second half

- Hughes saved North Georgia's try on goal in the 59th minute

- Ehmer netted the equalizer on Rusher's cross in the 87th minute

 

OVERTIME

- Ehmer's shot on goal was saved in the 97th minute

- Summerell's shot was saved, but Ehmer followed up with the game-winner in the 100th minute

 

SECOND OVERTIME

- Dunn's shot on goal was saved

- Catawba kept UNG from getting a shot on goal in the overtime, hanging on for the come-from-behind victory
