SALISBURY, N.C. -- Ninth-ranked Catawba stayed unbeaten, topping visiting Coker 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The win improves the Catawba Indians to 10-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the SAC. The Cobras fall to 4-2-2 and 2-2.
Catawba took an early lead, Sharon Mayes tallied in the eighth minute for the opening goal. Helen Summerell assisted on the goal that Mayes tucked inside the far post.
The margin remained at one until the second half when Catawba extended its lead. Lejla Mehmedovic scored from in from of the goal after a cross from Hannah Dunn. Dunn was freed up the right side on a long pass from Sydney Jimmo.
Five minutes later, Summerell added the final tally, which came off an assist from McKenzee Johnson on a long pass from midfield.
Catawba held a decisive 27-2 edge in shots and took nine corners to just one for the Cobras. Sierra Davis saved the lone Coker shot on goal. Sarah Swaim made six stops for Coker.
The shutout was the eighth consecutive for Catawba, who have outscored its opponents 37-0 in the month of September.
Catawba returns to action on Wednesday as the ladies host Coker at 7:30 p.m.
