SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's lacrosse team succumbed to 17th-ranked Wingate, 21-1, in South Atlantic Conference action at Shuford Stadium on Wednesday evening.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (5-6, 3-4 SAC) was out-shot 27-5 by Wingate (12-1, 7-0 SAC), who held an 11-1 edge in attempts through one quarter
- Despite enjoying a 12-11 advantage in ground balls at halftime, Catawba finished behind the Bulldogs 19-14
- Both teams were buffeted by turnovers, but Wingate committed fewer miscues in a 26-20 final count
- The 'Dogs posted a potent 18 draw controls while holding the Catawba Indians to seven
- Ava Kunza spent every minute in net for Catawba, making three saves; WU's Riley Boone got the win with two stops in three quarters before McKayla Elison entered in relief
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Kylie Harris chalked in the 12th goal of her redshirt sophomore campaign
- Harris, Grace Virginia Deal and Emily Better supplied the scoring opportunities with one shot on goal each
- Audrey Adelsberger and Mary Sorvillo recorded three ground balls and two draw controls apiece
- Allison Filosa accounted for two of the Catawba Indians' seven caused turnovers with a pair of ground balls and one draw control
