
Kunza’s 14 saves not enough for Women’s Lacrosse at Newberry
NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Catawba College women's lacrosse team's three-game winning streak was snapped by Newberry in a 19-6 defeat at Setzler Field on Saturday.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (5-4, 3-2 SAC) mustered 17 shots including 10 on goal, while Newberry (7-3, 4-1 SAC) racked up 41 attempts of which 29 were on target
- The Wolves won the turnover battle 24-15 with a 20-17 advantage on ground balls
- Newberry successfully cleared 16 of its 17 clear attempts compared to Catawba's 14-for-16 tally
- On the draw, the Catawba Indians led 9-7 in the first half before the Wolves pulled ahead to 15-14
- Ava Kunza snagged a career-high 14 saves for Catawba against the combined four stops made by Newberry's Mackenzie Dorr and Presley Green
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Emily Better scored in a fifth straight game, finding paydirt on each of her two shots for a brace
- Ella McCusker notched two points with a goal and an assist while chipping in three ground balls
- Abby Shuren, Grace Virginia Deal and Meredith Marchetti rounded out the scoresheet with one score apiece
- Skylar Mullin had a busy day outside the scoring column as the rookie logged team highs of three caused turnovers, four ground balls and five draw controls
- Joey Baillie and Audrey Adelsberger each tacked on three draw controls, while Mary Sorvillo pocketed a pair of takeaways and two ground balls
