
Cronemiller, Sorvillo tallies multiple goals in Women's Lacrosse's loss at LMU
Harrogate, Tenn. – The Catawba College Women's Lacrosse team would be defeated on the road by the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Saturday, dropping a 13-6 contest at the LMU Lacrosse Complex after the Railsplitters surged ahead in the first half. Catawba now sits at 2-8 and 1-3 in South Atlantic Conference play, while Lincoln Memorial moves to 4-7 and 3-2 in the SAC.
TEAM STATS
- Lincoln Memorial led the way in shots with 26, putting 19 of them on goal. Catawba would put 12 shots on goal, coming on 18 attempts
- The two teams were nearly even in draw controls, with the Railsplitters winning one more for a 12-11 advantage
- Both sides turned the ball over 5 times, while Lincoln Memorial recovered four ground balls and Catawba retrieved two
- In goal for Catawba, Evie Kaserud made six stops but took the loss, dropping to 2-8 on the season. For Lincoln Memorial, Elle Miller produced four stops in 31:23 while Keegan Gillman stopped two shots in 28:37 of action
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Helena Cronemiller and Mary Sorvillo each tallied a pair of goals, with Abby Shuren and Ella McCusker also finding the back of the net for Catawba
- Joey Baillierecorded Catawba's only assist of the game
- Both of Shuren and Sarah Maierled the team with four shots each, while Sorvillo, Cronemiller, and McCusker all had three
- Mackenzie Mullan and Audrey Adelsberger each recovered a ground ball
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- After nearly three scoreless minutes, the first period kicked into high gear with a wild eight-second sequence that saw both teams score their first goals
- Josie Tinnerello gave Lincoln Memorial the lead with the opening goal of the game at the 12:09 mark, only for Bailie to win the ensuing draw and feed Shuren on the attack for Catawba's equalizer at 12:01
- The Railsplitters regained the lead less than a minute later, as Tinnerello picked out Haleigh Barnett with 11:07 on the clock
- That lead wouldn't stand for very long, with Sorvillo evening the game at 2-2 at 9:40
- But the rest of the opening period would belong to Lincoln Memorial, with the home side going on a 4-0 tear in the second half of the frame. Barnett added her second with 6:53 to go, followed by Jaedyn Ryba with her first at 5:14
- Chandler Bell struck twice over a 1:10 stretch beginning at the 4:50 mark as Lincoln Memorial took a 6-2 lead into the first intermission
SECOND QUARTER
- The Railsplitters weren't done, with Liza Buckner and Amber Kirkpatrick adding goals at 13:13 and 12:29 for an 8-2 advantage
- McCusker would snap the run and put Catawba on the board in the second period with a goal at the 8:16 mark
- Jaiden James scored the fourth and final goal of the half, sending the Railspitters into the break with a 10-3 lead
THIRD QUARTER
- After nearly eight scoreless minutes to begin the second half, Tinnerello would again notch the first goal of the half, this time at 6:28
- Cronemiller responded with a quick pair of goals for Catawba, scoring her first at 4:40 and then adding her second less than a minute later at 3:44
- Those three goals would be all for the third quarter, as Catawba would enter the fourth period trailing 5-11
FOURTH QUARTER
- The final quarter followed a similar template as the third, a defensive battle with both teams combining for three goals again
- Kirkpatrick opened the scoring in the frame with her second goal of the day at 10:30, followed by Tinnerello completing her hat-trick with 7:47 to go as Lincoln Memorial now led 13-5
- Sorvillo would score her second of the game at 2:16, as Catawba made a late push but would be unable to battle back any further
NOTES
- Baillie's assist, her sixth of the year, now ties her for the team-high alongside Cronemiller
- Sorvillo's two-goal effort was her fourth multi-goal outing of the year, while Cronemiller's double was her second of the season
- Shuren has now scored in eight of Catawba's 10 games, adding to her team-high 21 points on the year
