
Women’s Lacrosse hangs in with PBA
West Palm Beach, Fla. — The Catawba College women's lacrosse team out-scored Palm Beach Atlantic – who received votes in this past week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association poll – in the final 41:40 of their first game of a two-game Spring Break road trip in Florida on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell 14-6.

- Palm Beach Atlantic out-shot Catawba 33-19
- The Sailfish had 27 shots on goal to the Catawba Indians' 14
- PBA held a 14-10 advantage on the draw control
- Palm Beach Atlantic had 24 ground balls to Catawba's 13
- The Sailfish were 12-for-14 on clear attempts; Catawba was 7-for-10
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Sarah Maier and Caroline Cox both recorded a goal and an assist
- Helena Cronemiller, Ella McCusker, Abby Shuren and Meredith Marchetti were the other goal scorers from Catawba
- Jenna Hirvonen and Evie Kauserud both recorded a game-high four ground balls
- Cox had a team-high three draw controls
- Madi Shaffer forced two caused turnovers
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Palm Beach Atlantic scored each of the six goals scored in the first quarter to take an early lead
SECOND QUARTER
- The Sailfish extended their lead to 9-0 three minutes into the second quarter
- Shuren got the Catawba Indians on the board at the 11:38 mark
- Cox scored near the 5-minute mark, as PBA led 10-2 at the halftime break
THIRD QUARTER
- Catawba scored the final two goals of the third quarter, as Cronemiller and Maier scores cut the deficit to 11-4 after three
FOURTH QUARTER
- PBA scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to trigger the running clock, but McCusker's free-position put an end to that at the 7:03 mark
- Marhcetti's score with 5:12 left was the last for either team
