Women’s Lacrosse falls to LMU on Senior Day

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's lacrosse team celebrated senior Erin Young on Senior Day on Saturday at Shuford Stadium, but ultimately fell to Lincoln Memorial 16-7 in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action. The Railsplitters improve to 8-7 and 4-4 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in league play.

Joey Baillie scored three goals for Catawba, while Kylie Harris added a pair of scores. Young added four ground balls and three caused turnovers and Evie Kauserud made 13 saves in goal. Ryann Doyle led LMU with four goals on the afternoon.

Catawba's Mary Sorvillo gave the home team an early lead just over a minute into the game. After Doyle tied the game at one, Catawba scored again on a score from Harris. The Railsplitters scored back-to-back goals to take their first lead of the game and then four straight after another Harris goal to take a 7-3 lead in a quarter packed with offense.

Baillie scored early in the second quarter to cut into the LMU lead, but the Railsplitters responded with the final three goals of the first half, taking a 10-4 lead into the halftime break.

LMU extended its unanswered score streak to six in the first five minutes of the second half, leading by as much as nine goals at the 10:19 mark. After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless play on both sides, Baillie found the back of the net again with a minute and a half to go as LMU led 13-5 with 10 minutes remaining.

Baillie scored again at the 12:58 mark as Catawba cut their deficit to seven, but LMU separated themselves once again with back-to-back goals. Ella McCusker scored the final goal of the home campaign for Catawba before Doyle added her fourth goal of the game to cap the scoring.

Catawba travels to UVA Wise on Saturday to complete their 2023 season. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
