Belmont, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's lacrosse team fell at Belmont Abbey on Wednesday night by the final score of 19-3 in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse action. The Crusaders improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Catawba Indians drop to 1-5 overall.
Ella McCusker, Charlie Skepple and Mary Sorvillo were the goal scorers for Catawba on the night. Evie Kauserud made seven saves in goal for the visitors. Riley D'Andrea led BAC with six goals scored.
Belmont Abbey scored the game's first five goals before McCusker got Catawba on the board at the 7:35 mark. The Crusaders scored the final six goals of the opening half, leading 11-1 at the break.
BAC picked up where it left off in the second half, scoring the first five goals of the second half to take a 16-1 lead. Skepple found the back of the net at the 2:11 mark and Sorvillo added a free-position goal with 1:45 to go in the fourth quarter for the game's final goal.
Catawba opens up South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Mars Hill for a 4 p.m. start.
