Carlson headlines Women’s Golf with runner-up finish at Oldfield Intercollegiate

OKATIE, S.C. – Using her best performance of the season, Rachel Carlson filled the runner-up spot to lead the Catawba Indians to a sixth-place finish at the Oldfield Intercollegiate as proceedings closed Tuesday.

Carlson recovered from early bogeys by going two-under-par in her last 10 holes, collecting a day-two 75 to rise into second place at 224 (+8). Sara Kristinsdottir duplicated her previous two scores with a 78 in Round 3, totaling 234 shots (+18) to slot T-22nd. Mary-Paige King put together her second-best third round at two-over to also take a share of 22nd place; Kristinsdottir and King also had the same score at the Low Tide Intercollegiate (229).

Taya Buxton turned in a score of 250 (+34) as she claimed T-62nd, while Emily Rosenschein tied for 81st after posting an 85 on Tuesday to land at 269 strokes (+53). Hannah Waddell recorded the fourth-lowest score of 13 unattached competitors, shooting a career-best 253 (+37) to finish T-68th. Valentina Moran chalked up a total score of 258 (+42) to round out the Catawba Indians in 77th place.

Catawba finished in the top half of the field, stacking up sixth in the 15-team event with a team score of 941 (+77), just a shot higher than its last result at the Space Coast Collegiate Championship.

SCAD Savannah had the best team round of the tournament at eight-over in the third 18, slipping past Eastern Florida State to capture the title at 907 (+43). Mila Tang of EFSC held a three-stroke lead to win the individual championship with a 221 (+5), followed by a three-way tie for second place between Carlson, Pennie Osterberg (Limestone), and Yunyi Luo (SCAD).
