Trio of Golfers Selected to WGCA All-American Scholar Team

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Catawba College was represented by Emily Wellspeak, Mary-Paige King, and Maddy Vogan on the 2023-24 WGCA (Women's Golf Coaches Association) All-American Scholar Team released Monday. The organization recognized 1,497 collegiate golfers from 412 programs nationwide.

To be recognized as a WGCA All-American Scholar, student-athletes must have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, be an amateur on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season, and have played 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Wellspeak, a two-time recipient of the prestigious award, added to her resume as she was also named the South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. On the course, Wellspeak led the team with a 77.38 stroke average and four rounds on par or better.

A Clemmons, N.C. native, King posted a stroke average of 78.17 in her freshman season to rank third on the team. Vogan, a fellow rising sophomore from New Bern, N.C., slotted fourth on the squad with an 80.14 stroke average.
