Wellspeak, Women's Golf move up leaderboards in Day 3 of SAC Championships
Salisbury, N.C. – The Catawba College Women's Golf team notched their best finish since the 2005-06 season at the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Tuesday, capping off a strong three days of action with a +14, 301 in the third and final round at the Salisbury Country Club. Coming into Tuesday T-4th, Catawba's third round play would be its best of the tournament as the team earned a T-3rd final ledger with an overall score of +54, 906
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emily Wellspeak rocketed up the individual leaderboard after another strong round, finishing the third round T-5th with an overall score of +9, 222. After earning a +2, 73 on Monday, Wellspeak continued to roll with a birdie and five pars on the front-nine for a +2, 37 before hitting another gear on a back-nine stretch that saw her sink three birdies and five pars for a stellar -2, 34. Her third round total of E, 71 was her best round of the tournament and enough to left her from T-15th to T-5th in the final standings to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team
- Chloe Crane earned a T-12th finish as she carded a +4, 75 on Tuesday as part of an overall +12, 225 effort. Crane tallied six pars on the front-nine and was lights-out over a five-hole stretch on the back nine, sinking an eagle on the 11th hole before adding a pair of pars and a pair of birdies afterwards. A +1, 37 over the back-nine thanks to that stretch would be able to move her up a spot in the final standings
- Maddy Vogan was able to jump up several spots on the final table as well, climbing from T-24th to T-15th with a +15, 228 total after carding her best round of the tournament, a +3, 74. Vogan holed seven pars during the front-nine as part of a +2, 37 stretch and bounced back after a tricky start on the back-nine to sink two birdies and four pars over the final six holes for a +1, 37
- Mary-Paige King ended Tuesday T-31st at +20, 233 as she tallied a +7, 78 in the final round. King notched a birdie and fives pars down the opening set of holes for a +3, 38 before adding four more pars over the back-nine as well as part of her second-straight +7 round
- Lauren Hackler took a T-40th finish at +26, 239 as she finished the third round with a +13, 84. Hackler notched eight pars on Tuesday

- Catawba posted the third best mark as a team on both Par 4s (+61/4.37) and Par 3s (+9, 5.20) during overall play
- Catawba's 163 total pars ranked as second best among all teams
