Women's Golf completes action at The Bracket Challenge

Homer, Ga. – The Catawba College Women's Golf team earned a fourth-place finish at the UNG Women's Bracket Challenge on Tuesday, edged out by the North Greenville Nighthawks by a score of 5-0 in the third-place match held at the Chimney Oaks Golf Club 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED, Third Place Match – Catawba 0, North Georgia 5  

  • Match No. 1: Danielle Humphrey def.Chloe Crane, 79-80 

Crane sported a pair of +4, 40 frames as part of an overall +8, 80 round that fell just a stroke short of defeating Humprey on Tuesday. Crane tallied 10 pars on the day, with five each over the front and back-nines 

 

  • Match No. 2: Abby Franks def. May-Paige King, 78-81 

King would fall by three strokes, holing seven pars during the front-nine but also falling victim to a double-bogey for a +3, 39. She'd add four more pars down the back-nine, but would encounter a tough stretch for a +6, 42. Crane would finish +9, 81 overall in the third round  

 

Wellspeak endured a difficult Tuesday after a terrific opening two matches on Monday, as she sank a pair of birdies but ran into a pair of difficult patches that saw her post a pair of +7, 43 frames for an overall +14, 86 round 

 

Vogan opened Tuesday with five pars as part of a +4, 40 front-nine, but encountered a tricky back-nine as she posted a +8, 44 down the stretch for an overall +12, 84 round 

 

Hackler endured a match similar to Vogan, with five pars and +5, 41 front-nine but a +9, 45 back-nine for a +14, 86 overall to close play  

 

NOTES 

- Wellspeak finished play tied for the fourth-best mark among individuals on Par 3's, with an average of 3.25 and a score of +3. King and Vogan would finish tied for fifth-best, at 3.33/+4 

- Crane's mark of 4.83/-2 was tied for the second-best among individuals on Par 5's 

- Wellspeak's 10 birdies tied for the fourth-most among all players 

- King's 33 pars would be tied for seventh-most among all players

- The Catawba College Women's Golf team will gear up for postseason play, which is set to begin on Sunday, April 14th in Salisbury, NC with the South Atlantic Conference Championships held at the Country Club of Salisbury
